As a car owner, your goal is to slow the process. Cars stored in garages are harder to access than cars on the street, and cars in clear sight of video cameras are also less likely to be interfered with.
HOW TO HELP PROTECT YOUR VEHICLE
Always park your car in a closed garage if possible.
Park in a populated area where there is a high amount of car and foot traffic or in the view of security cameras.
Turn your wheels when you park. This can also make it significantly harder to steal your wheels, because they are stuck in the wheel well. A steering wheel column lock also makes it quite difficult for the wheel to be turned without having keys in the ignition.
Purchase and use wheel locks on each wheel including your spare but be sure not to lose the key! These are locks that attach to the wheel and make it extremely difficult to remove the lug nuts without the right key. The locks fit on each wheel making the lug nuts very difficult to remove and require a specially sized wrench to be removed, and can therefore be barriers to theft.
